NORFOLK, Va. – James Carlton of Howard was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. South Carolina State’s Edward Stephens earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Delaware State’s Kendall Gray was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Carlton (F, 6-8, 200, Sr., Winterville, N.C.) averaged 29.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.5 assists and 1.0 block in conference victories over Bethune-Cookman and Morgan State. He shot 82-percent (14-of-17) from the field to finish with a career-high 32 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block in a 64-48 win over Morgan State.
Stephens (G, 6-2, 175, Fr., Columbia, S.C.) averaged 16.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in conference victories over Hampton and Delaware State. He recorded 21 points, five rebounds, four assists and one steal against Delaware State.
Gray (C, 6-10, 240, Sr., Dover, Del.) totaled 27 rebounds, two blocks and one steal in a pair of games against North Carolina Central and South Carolina State. He recorded 16 boards, one block and one steal, while playing the entire 40 minutes, against South Carolina State. Offensively, Gray recorded 29 total points in the two games.

Ryan Andino (UMES) finished with 14 points, including four 3-pointers, in a 92-82 win over Coppin State.
Quintin Brewer (B-CU) tallied 12 points, eight rebounds, five blocks, one assist and one steal in a 61-44 conference win over Florida A&M.
Jordan Butler (NSU) totaled six rebounds, five points, five blocks, two assists and two steals in a 70-54 conference victory over Savannah State.
RaShid Gaston (NSU) averaged 15.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.0 block and 1.0 steal in conference victories over Savannah State and Hampton.
Ricky Johnson (B-CU) finished with 25 points, two assists, two steals and one rebound in a 61-44 conference victory over Florida A&M.
Anthony McDonald (NCCU) registered 23 points, five rebounds and one assist in a 55-54 conference victory over Delaware State.
Jermaine Ruttley (FAMU) tallied 22 points, shooting 50-percent from the field, with six rebounds, one assist and two steals against Bethune-Cookman.
Sterling Smith (CSU) registered 24 points, on 9-of-15 shooting, with four rebounds, one assist and one steal in an 84-71 conference win over North Carolina A&T State.
Devon Walker (UMES) totaled a career-high 27 points and nine rebounds, with one assist and one steal in a 92-82 conference win over Coppin State.
