Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations
Ryan McGinty begins his second year as the Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
McGinty oversees the day-to-day operations of the MEAC's media relations department, in addition to assisting with the league's championships, policy implementation, social media efforts and is the liaison between the league office, NCAA and member schools' communications officials. He is also tasked with maintaining the MEAC's relationship with its media partners along with developing content and the oversight of MEACSports.com
Prior to joining the MEAC, McGinty spent seven years as the Director of Sports Information at Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas. While at PVAMU, McGinty helped design and successfully guided the athletics department through the implementation and redesign of PVPanthers.com. He has also instituted several new revenue streams within his department which range from live streaming of selected athletic events to ad revenue from publications. McGinty also oversaw the media relations, statistical and gameday operations for the department's 18 sports in addition to serving as an athletic liaison for events across the PVAMU campus. In addition, McGinty helped develop the first-ever weekly coaches show via video (The Willie Simmons Show) and transitioned PVAMU's live sporting events to the YouTube platform in the summer of 2015.
Before returning to PVAMU in 2009, McGinty served a three-year stint as the Director of Sports Information at Grambling State University in Grambling, La. While at Grambling, he was responsible for all communications for the athletics department, including oversight of the department's internet site, development of media guides and dissemination of information to regional, national print and electronic media. He also served as a member of the Eddie Robinson, Sr. Funeral Committee in 2007, launched the department's new web site in 2006, revamped the football and basketball media guides and helped open Grambling State's Assembly Center which is home to both its men's and women's basketball programs.
Prior to his appointment at Grambling State, McGinty served a four-year stint as Assistant Sports Information Director at Prairie View A&M University. While at Prairie View, he helped record in-game statistics for the school's 18 sports, assisted in the production of athletic department publications, coordinated interviews between the media, players and coaches along with maintaining the athletic department's official web site.
In 2004, McGinty worked for the National Football League as a press runner during Super Bowl XXXVII after spending the fall of 2003 as a member of the media relations gameday staff for the NFL's Houston Texans. He has also served as the media coordinator for the 2006 NCAA Women's Bowling Championship along with assisting the Southwestern Athletic Conference during its annual postseason championships. An avid supporter of youth athletics in the Houston area, McGinty was a part of the high school sports radio show Prep Talk for five years and in 2003, hosted The Houston SWAC Report, which promoted SWAC athletics on a weekly basis. Prior to that, he served as sports editor for The Angleton Times from 2001 to 2002 and general assignments reporter for the Fort Bend Southwest Sun in 2001.
A native of Houston, Texas, McGinty received both a bachelor's degree in communications in 2001 and a master's in counseling in 2004 from Prairie View A&M. He also holds memberships in Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and the Prairie View Interscholastic League Coaches Association (PVIL).
He is married to Dr. Deborah (Myles) McGinty and they have a 1-year old son, Myles.
