Florida A&M Moves To Semifinals Behind Burse, Fullwood's Performances
ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - Veronica Burse threw a three-hit shutout as Florida A&M downed North Carolina A&T State 3-0 to advance in the winner's bracket of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament Thursday at Ormond Beach Sports Complex.
The Rattlers (20-29-1) will face Bethune-Cookman, a 2-0 winner over Hampton, at 1 p.m. Friday. North Carolina A&T (17-29-1) meets Hampton at 10 a.m. in an elimination game.
Amber Fullwood drove in two runs for the Rattlers while Jameisa Stoudemire had two hits and an RBI. Tashayla Irvis also had two hits.
The Rattlers broke a scoreless tie in the third on Fullwood's RBI single to cap off a three-hit inning and tacked on another run in the fifth on Stoudemire's double coupled with an error by the Aggies. FAMU logged a pair of singles early in the sixth and crossed home the final run on Fullwood's RBI single.
Alexandria Simmons had two of the Aggies' three hits.
Florida A&M will battle MEAC rival Bethune-Cookman tomorrow at 1 p.m. for the right to go to the championship game.
