HISTORY OF THE HALL OF FAME

On May 29, 1981, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference combined a 10-year anniversary banquet with its first Hall of fame Induction Ceremonies in Greensboro, North Carolina. Willie Jeffries the (retired South Carolina State Head Coach) was the keynote speaker and New York sportscaster, Ron Pinkney, served as the Master of Ceremonies. The entire evening proved to be another MEAC success story.

HALL OF FAME CRITERIA SPECIFICATIONS


Criteria for Athletes- 1) Must have achieved All-American status in their respective sport; (and/or), 2) All-Conference status (1st, 2nd, 3rd team or honorable mention) in the sport; (and/or), 3) Must have been an annual leader in a significant statistical category in their sport (e.g. free throws, kills, sacks, shutouts, strikeouts, etc.; (and/or), 4) Must be the all time institutional leader in a significant statistical category; (and), 5) Must have ended playing career for at least five years; 6) Have to be away from the sport and must have completed their eligibility; 7) Must be of high moral character; 8) Must be making significant contributions to society.
Criteria for Coaches – 1) Must have coached in MEAC institution and must not be presently coaching; 2) Must have coached at least four years in the Conference.
Criteria for Administrators – 1) Must have served in an MEAC institution for at least five years.
Special Categories Criteria – 1) (Presidents, Chancellors, Commissioners, Faculty Athletics Representatives, and Senior Woman Administrators) must have served in an MEAC institution for at least five years; 2) (Sponsors) The Conference Office may nominate a Conference sponsor.
