HAMPTON, Va. - For the second year in a row, Hampton University senior guard Jericka Jenkins has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team for the 2011-12 season for District 3 among NCAA Division I student-athletes.
Jenkins (Lancaster, Texas), who currently has a 3.71 grade point average and is majoring in Criminology/Criminal Justice, has started 20 games for the Lady Pirates this season, shooting 31 percent from the field and 35 percent from 3-point range.
She is averaging 14.9 points and 7.8 assists per game, which ranks second in the NCAA in assists per game as of Feb. 2. She is also 14th in the NCAA in assist-turnover ratio (2.33). Jenkins recorded 12 assists at Morgan State on Jan. 16, which made her the second player in program history to have 500 career assists.
She currently has 554 career assists, with is second in school history and a Division I program record.
Jenkins has made the Dean's List eight times and has been named to the MEAC Commissioners All-Academic Team in each of her first three years at Hampton.
The 2012 Capital One Academic All-District ® Women's Basketball Team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the floor and in the classroom.
The Academic All-District ® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. . This is the first year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moves from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and doubles the number of scholar-athletes honored. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
First-team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America ® Team ballot, where First, Second and Third Team All-American honorees will be selected later this month.
