MEAC Tennis Championships: Day One

Women's Tennis Results

#1 South Carolina State 4, #4 Morgan State 0

The defending MEAC women's champion South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs defeated Morgan State in the first round of the 2012 MEAC Women's Tennis Championship.

After capturing the doubles point, the Lady Bulldogs won at the number four, five and six spots to win the match.

The Lady Bulldogs advance and will meet North Carolina Central tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.

#3 North Carolina Central 4, #2 Hampton 2

The North Carolina Central Lady Eagles advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 MEAC Women's Tennis Championship with a 4-2 victory over the Hampton Lady Pirates.
NCCU won the doubles point and posted victories at the number one, two and four singles positions. Hampton recorded victories at the number five and six spots.

#3 Howard 4, #2 Bethune-Cookman 3
Bethune-Cookman and Howard battled in the quarterfinal match of the 2012 MEAC Women's Tennis Championship. 

Howard was up 1-0 heading into singles play after capturing the doubles point.
Howard won at the number four, and five singles spots, while Bethune-Cookman captured wins at the number three and six spots. Howard's Katelyn Stokes won the point at the number one singles spot 6-0, 7-5, 6-2 over B-CU's Katerina Szaboova to lead the Lady Bison to tomorrow's semifinal.

#1 Delaware State 4, #4 Florida A&M 2
Florida A&M took the doubles points and was up 1-0 heading into singles play. Delaware State, the top seed in the northern division, battled back and captured points at the number one, three four and five positions to clinch the match. Florida A&M's Alexis Brown won the lone singles point for FAMU with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against DSU's Kristina Aleksic.

#1 South Carolina State 4, #4 Maryland Eastern Shore 0
On the men's side, the defending MEAC Champion South Carolina State Bulldogs swept Maryland Eastern Shore 4-0. SCSU won the doubles point and added victories at the number two, five and six singles positions. 


#4 Norfolk State 4, #1 Morgan State 2
The Spartans of Norfolk State defeated top seeded Morgan State 4-2. The Bears had the 2-0 lead after doubles play and earning the win at the number four singles position. The Spartans battled back and won the number three, five and six singles positions. Morgan State captured the point at the number four spot and was down 3-2. NSU's Ben Marks clinched the victory for the Spartans with a win in the tiebreaker at the second spot 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (2) over Morgan State's Eric Ward. NSU will meet Florida A&M in a semifinal match beginning at Noon.


#2 Florida A&M vs. #3 Coppin State
Florida A&M swept Coppin State 4-0 during today's quarterfinal action. The Rattlers captured victories in singles play at the number one, three and four spots to advance to tomorrow's semifinal.


#2 Hampton vs. #3 Bethune-Cookman
 Bethune-Cookman, the third seed in the south, defeated #2 Hampton 4-0 to advance to tomorrow's semifinal against South Carolina State at Noon.  Ahead 1-0, B-CU recorded wins at the number one, three and six singles positions to advance past the Pirates.
