BOX SCORE

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Allyson Babinsack took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and the Hampton University softball team took advantage of three errors in a 4-0 win over North Carolina Central on Thursday to open the 2017 MEAC Softball Championship.

The Lady Pirates (23-20), the Northern Division's top seed, will play again at 7 p.m. against the Bethune-Cookman-Morgan State winner.

Hampton scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. After Taylor Warrick led off the frame with a single and Brianna Anderson reached on an error, Kial Watts doubled to left center to score them both and give the Lady Pirates a 2-0 lead.

The third run of the inning came when Jada Fields reached on a dropped fly ball; Fields later advanced to third on a passed ball before scoring on a sacrifice bunt to put Hampton up 4-0.

Babinsack took a perfect game into the seventh inning, but the no-hitter was broken up when NCCU junior shortstop Ryann Kostandin looped a clean single to left. Babinsack settled for the one-hit shutout after retiring the first 19 NCCU batters faced. Babinsack leveled her record at 13-13 and recorded three strikeouts.

Watts was 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs.
