LEESBURG, Va. - North Carolina Central football senior Arthur Goforth has been announced to the 2012 Beyond Sports College Network FCS All-America First Team as a return specialist.
Goforth ranked second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and 26th in NCAA Division I-FCS in all-purpose yards with an average of 134.9 yards per game. He scored three touchdowns on special teams (two punt returns, one kickoff return), broke the NCCU single-season record with a punt return average of 35.8 yards per attempt, and also established a new school record with a 92-yard punt return for a touchdown. He topped the MEAC and ranked 21st in the nation with an average of 26.2 yards per kickoff return, including a 90-yard touchdown.
A two-time MEAC Special Teams Player of the Week (Sept. 24 and Oct. 22), Goforth also earned First Team All-MEAC honors as a return specialist.
A 5-8, 171-pound native of Columbia, S.C., Goforth ended his collegiate career as only the third Eagle to amass more than 4,000 all-purpose yards, finishing with 4,021 (968 rushing, 368 receiving, 567 punt returns, 2,118 kickoff returns).
NCCU senior defensive lineman Stephen Young garnered BSN All-America Honorable Mention recognition for his play during the Eagles' 6-5 season.
A First Team All-MEAC recipient, Young ranked third in the conference and tied for ninth in the NCAA Division I-FCS with 15.5 tackles for a loss, and tied for third in the league with 5.5 sacks. He also recorded 42 total tackles (21 solo) with a forced fumble.
