MEAC Announces Track and Field Weekly Honors

North Carolina A&T sophomore Kendrick Smith and Coppin State senior Alexis Easterling were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's and Women's Field Athletes of the Week, while Coppin State sophomore Jeremy Dorsey and Coppin State sophomore Melissa Caddle were named the MEAC Men's and Women's Track Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday. 

Smith (So., Richmond, Va., Jumps) won the men's triple jump at the Clemson Tiger Classic with a leap of 14.78m (48-6.00 ft.). He also had a mark of 6.88m (22-7.00 ft.) in the long jump to finish fourth.

Easterling (Sr., Manhattan, N.Y., Jumps) cleared 19-3.25 ft. (5.87m) to finish second in the long jump out of 52 competitors at the New York Gotham Cup.

Dorsey (So., New Market, Md., Sprints) was fourth in the finals of the 60m dash at the New York Gotham Cup in a time of 6.95. He also ran an 8.19 in the 60m hurdles to finish ninth.

Caddle (So., Brooklyn, N.Y., Sprints) broke the Coppin State school record in the 400m with a time of 54.77 to finish third at the New York Gotham Cup. Her time leads the MEAC this season and ranks eighth in the nation.

Other Top Performers:

Angelo Cabrera (B-CU) finished in sixth place with a time of 6.84 in the 60m dash at the UAB Blazer Invite.

Elias Cheshire (FAMU) recorded a first place finish in the 5,000m with a time of 15:15.87 at the UAB Blazer Invite.

Dolphrus Hayes (SSU) cleared 14-9.00 ft. (4.50m) to finish fourth out of 17 competitors in the pole vault at the UAB Blazer Invite.

Kinnesha Jones (FAMU) won the triple jump at the Clemson Tiger Challenge with a jump of 39-05.50 ft. (12.01m). She also had a jump of 17-05.50 ft. (5.32m) to place sixth in the long jump.

Barry Kimbrough (B-CU) finished ninth in the shot put with a mark of 47-04.50 ft. (14.44m) at the UAB Blazer Invite.

Petra Kubesova (UMES) set a Maryland Eastern Shore record in the 5,000m run with a time of 17:18.99 at the Navy Invite. Her time earned her a fourth-place finish.

Ranita Mealer (MSU) recorded a mark of 47-03.00 ft. (14.40m) to place second in the shot put at the New York Gotham Cup.

Dillon Simon (UMES) won the shot put at the Navy Invite with a mark of 52-10.00 ft. (16.38m).

Jasmine Smith (FAMU) finished in the top ten in both of her events at the Clemson Tiger Challenge. She placed sixth in the 60m dash (7.65) and seventh in the 200m dash (25.48).

Emmanuel Stewart (MSU) led the Bears at the New York Gotham Cup with a second place finish in the weight throw. He posted a toss of 58-11.50 ft. (17.97m).

Asia Stinson (SSU) ran a 7.59 in the finals of the 60m dash to place fifth at the UAB Blazer Invite. She set a school record in the 60m dash preliminaries with a time of 7.57.

Ishakeema Swain (MSU) paced 11 runners to capture the gold in the 5000m run with a time of 18:14.02 at the New York Gotham Cup.
