MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors
NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton University junior Vendula Strakova was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Florida A&M’s Dei’ja Martin earned Rookie of the Week accolades.
Strakova (6-0, Jr., Brno, Czech Republic) recorded 67 kills on 145 attacks for a .290 hitting percentage as she helped guide the Lady Pirates to a perfect 3-0 non-conference record over the weekend. Strakova was selected as the North Carolina University Invitational MVP after posting a weekend-best 26 kills and 24 digs in a 3-2 win over Evansville.
Martin (6-1, OH, Fr., Gleens Ferry, Idaho) combined for 19 kills and eight digs to aid the Lady Ratters to a 1-2 mark at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Against UT-Chattanooga, Martin posted 15 kills on 27 attacks with a .370 hitting percentage.
Other Top Performers:
Yeisha Arcia (FAMU) earned Georgia Tech All-Tournament Team honors after registering 19 kills.
Shanotta Bawek (MSU) totaled seven kills, two blocks, two assists and 15 digs in three matches.
Victoria Ferguson (SCSU) had 17 digs, including eight against High Point University.
Bryana Gadis (SSU) finished with 12 kills and 14 digs in three matches last week.
Goda Jankauskaite (NSU) registered 35 kills and a .386 hitting percentage as the Lady Spartans went 1-2 last week.
Jingqiao Li (UMES) paced the Lady Hawks with 40 digs and was named to the CEFCU All-Tournament Team.
Allyson Lods (HOW) was named to the DC Volleyball Challenge All-Tournament Team.
Natalia Medieta (DSU) registered three kills in two matches for the Lady Hornets.
Gabrielle Nathaniel (SSU) recorded 15 kills, seven blocks, six digs and two aces in three matches.
Kandace Thomas (CSU) was named to the Hofstra Asics Invitational All-Tournament Team after posting 18 kills.
Rhea Simon (B-CU) tailed 21 kills, 15 digs, three aces and two assists for the Lady Wildcats.
Tori Tulensru (NSU) finished with 25 kills, including 10 against Appalachian State.
Lauren Turner (B-CU) finished with nine kills and two blocks at the Florida Atlantic Invitational.
Desire Waller (SCSU) recorded 21 kills and was selected to the Gamecock Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Janelle Wilson (MSU) tallied 17 kills and earned All-Tournament Team honors at the Arizona Invitational.
