Savannah State University has informed the NCAA and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference that it intends to reclassify from NCAA Division I to NCAA Division II. The Tigers, members of the MEAC since the fall of 2010, will remain a member of conference and Division I until the conclusion of the 2018-19 academic year.

The Tigers will remain eligible for all MEAC and NCAA Postseason Championships during their final two seasons in the MEAC.

"I wish Savannah State the best in its future endeavors as they transition from Division I to Division II,” said MEAC Commissioner Dr. Dennis E. Thomas. “Dr. Dozier and her leadership team are faced with and have had tough financial decisions to make. Again, I wish them the very best.”
