Bethune-Cookman Moves On With Timely Pitching, Hitting
ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - Sabrina Anguiano threw her second shutout of the day, and Bethune-Cookman used another big fifth inning as the Wildcats downed Hampton 2-0 Thursday evening to advance in the winner's bracket of the MEAC tournament at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.
The Wildcats will face archrival and three-time defending champion Florida A&M at 1 p.m Friday.
Anguiano, who threw a one-hit shutout earlier in the day in an 8-0 victory over Morgan State, now has five career tournament shutouts. The senior scattered four hits, walked none and struck out six.
Hampton had its moments early in the contest as they placed a runner on third in the fourth inning but failed to capitalize. After B-CU's two-run fifth, Hampton's Taylor Warrick hit a leadoff double in the sixth but was thrown out on the fielder's choice. Brianna Anderson stole second to move into scoring position but would get no further as the inning ended on a strikeout.
Both Bethune-Cookman runs came in the fifth when Brianna Sanders doubled home Kaitlin Alamprese and scored on Mariah Davis' single.
Alamprese, a senior catcher, had two hits, as did Davis.
