Howard's Davis Selected for NCAA Pathway Program
NORFOLK, Va., June 13, 2017—Howard University Deputy Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator Shelley Davis has been selected to participate in the 2017 NCAA Pathway Program.
Davis is one of 25 senior-level athletics administrators to join the year-long experiential learning opportunity. The program is designed to elevate those currently in senior-level positions to the next step as athletics directors. She is the only representative from a Div. I HBCU.
"I am appreciative for the opportunity and look forward to the engagement and exposure to industry leaders in higher education and athletics administration," Davis said in a release. "I'd also like to thank Kery Davis (Howard's Director of Athletics) for nominating me. He has been a champion in my professional growth and development."
The Pathway Program provides participants the opportunity to gain insight into all facets of an athletic department to help prepare them to become well-rounded leaders who have the tools to be effective athletic directors. Each participant will be mentored by a current athletic director and a current university chancellor or president at an NCAA member institution.
Davis is a graduate of the 2014 NACDA Senior Administrator Mentoring Institute and the 2011 NCAA Minority Male and Female Leadership Institute. She has served on the NCAA Div. I Championships and Sports Administration Cabinet, as well as the NCAA Div. I Women's Basketball Issues Committee.
Davis, who has been at Howard since 2011, has also served as Assistant Commissioner for Championships and Senior Woman Administrator for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) – in addition to serving as Director of Education and Professional Development with the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA) and Assistant Athletic Director at North Carolina A&T State University.
She is a graduate of North Carolina Central University.
