Maryland Eastern Shore Releases 2017-18 WBB Schedule
PRINCESS ANNE, Md., Aug. 23, 2017 – Fred Batchelor and the Maryland Eastern Shore women’s basketball team revealed its 2017-18 schedule on Wednesday, featuring 12 non-conference contests and 16 league games.
“We’re thrilled about the upcoming season,” Batchelor said. “We understand it’s going to be a tough nonconference schedule, but our ladies will be ready for the challenge.”
On Nov. 10, Eastern Shore opens its new campaign with a home date versus Catawba, where the Indians went 16-13 overall a year ago.
Maryland Eastern Shore begins an eight-game road swing, featuring the 38th annual GCI Great Alaska Shootout (Nov. 21-23). The four-team tourney consist of the Hawks, Binghamton, Tulsa, and host team Alaska-Anchorage (UAA).
“We are honored and extremely excited about the opportunity to participate in the historical Great Alaska Shootout,” said Batchelor back in July. “We look forward to representing our program, institution and league.”
After concluding its eight-game road swing with ACC foes Virginia Tech (Dec. 6) and Wake Forest (Dec. 9), Eastern Shore hosts back-to-back home contests inside the William P. Hytche Athletic Center against Mount St. Mary’s (Dec. 19) and UMBC (Dec. 21) before wrapping up nonconference play at East Carolina (Dec. 28).
After opening the New Year at Morgan State (Jan. 3), Eastern Shore hosts the next five-out-of-eight contests in Princess Anne, including Hampton (Jan. 6) and Bethune-Cookman (Jan. 8), last season’s participants in the conference title game.
Other notable home contests include North Carolina A&T State (Jan. 20); North Carolina Central (Jan.22); and Howard (Jan. 27).
Following a home matchup versus Florida A&M (Feb. 5), the Hawks begin a four-game road trip, capped off by a visit to the Tar Heel State: North Carolina A&T State (Feb. 17) and North Carolina Central (Feb. 19).
Batchelor’s bunch ends the regular season with a pair of home contest: Norfolk State (Feb. 24) for homecoming and Delaware State (Feb. 26) on Senior Night.
On March 5-10, Maryland Eastern Shore travels to Norfolk to compete in the MEAC Tournament inside the Norfolk Scope Arena. The six-day event concludes Saturday, March 10 with the winner receiving an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
