Former Norfolk State University women's basketball standout Brehanna Daniels was featured on FS1's NASCAR Race Hub on Wednesday as part of the program's "Women in Wheels" feature highlighting women who have had an impact and made history in NASCAR.

Daniels is the first African-American female to be a tire changer in NASCAR, making history when she serviced pit stops for Toyota Racing earlier this season. This past April, she also served as a tire changer during an Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) race in Nashville, Tenn.

In April 2016, Daniels took part in the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Pit Crew combine when it came to Norfolk State's campus; from there, she participated in a second combine in Charlotte, N.C. before earning a spot in a six-month training program. She is currently an independent contractor, which means any team associated with NASCAR can sign her to contracts ranging from one race to the entire season.

Daniels was featured on the program along with current Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series driver Danica Patrick, MENCS team owner Jodi Geschickter and NASCAR Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Jill Gregory.

Daniels is among six former Spartans to graduate from the pit crew combine in the last two years; former football player Lamar Neal, who went through the combine with Daniels, is currently a tire carrier for Richard Childress Racing. This past April, former Norfolk State football players Sandy Chapman, Torian Henderson and Gerard Johnson moved on to the national combine.

Norfolk State was one of six universities, including a number of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), to serve as a stop on this year's recruitment tour. The NASCAR Drive for Diversity Crew Member Development Program seeks minority male and female athletes from all sports with a general interest in motorsports, extreme sports, the auto industry and individuals who possess a strong sense of character and work ethic.
