MEAC Places 3 On Jerry Rice Award Watch List
The MEAC is well-represented with three freshmen named to the Jerry Rice Award Watch List.
Howard’s Caylin Newton, North Carolina A&T State’s Mac McCain III and North Carolina Central’s Isiah Totten made the cut.
McCain leads the MEAC with five interceptions while Newton leads the MEAC in total offense (298.7 ypg), scoring (8 ppg) and second in rushing (77.4). Totten ranks fourth in rushing with 75 yards per outing.
The Rice Award, named for the legendary Hall of Fame wide receiver, has been presented to the FCS freshman player of the year since 2011. Two of the first three winners, Towson running back Terrance West and Eastern Washington wide receiver Cooper Kupp, are starters in the NFL, and the 2014 winner, Fordham running back Chase Edmonds, could be headed toward a pro career next season.
