Norfolk State Men Compete in NCAA Southeast Regional
EARLYSVILLE, Va. – The Norfolk State men's cross country team took 17th place on Friday morning at the NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Virginia at Panorama Farms.
Competing in their first NCAA regional since 2011, the MEAC champion Spartans finished in the middle of the pack in one of the stronger regions in the country. NSU bested 15 other teams, including teams from the ACC, CAA and Atlantic 10, among others.
Two Spartans finished among the top 60 runners out of a field of 230 athletes. Sophomore Bill Kemboi led the way, placing 54th on the 10,000-meter course in a time of 30 minutes, 39.6 seconds. Senior Ronald Korir wasn't far behind, taking 59th in 30:47.9.
Junior Anteneh Girma, the MEAC runner-up, was the next-highest Spartan finisher. He posted a time of 32:04.7, good for 122nd. Sophomore Felix Kiprotich was 132nd in 32:16.0 and classmate Festus Bett rounded out the NSU top five by placing 156th in 32:40.2.
