MEAC Softball Weekly Honors



Bethune-Cookman junior Mariah Davis was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Morgan State’s Amy Begg earned Pitcher of the Week honors, while Ashleigh Dennis, of Savannah State, was named Rookie of the Week.

Davis (OF, 5-0, Jr., Mardera, Calif.) registered a .533 batting average in five games at the FAU Kick-Off Classic. She finished with eight hits, five runs, two RBI, and three stolen bases. Defensively, she notched 10 putouts with a perfect fielding percentage.

Begg (P, 6-2, Jr., Christchurch, New Zealand) earned three wins during opening weekend at the Dot Richardson Tournament. She posted a 0.00 ERA in 16.2 innings pitched and struck out 18 batters, allowing only one run. She also recorded eight strikeouts in a shutout victory over Fairleigh Dickinson.

Dennis (1B, 5-7, Fr., Stone Mountain, Ga.) went 6-for-17 at the plate in seven games, including her first two collegiate home runs, with four RBI at the Stetson Lead Off Classic. She recorded 19 putouts, with no errors, at first base and was named to the All-Tournament team.

Other Top Performers

Mariah Estrada (B-CU) picked up one strikeout and allowed one run, through seven innings, to earn a win over Boston University.

Ryan Jackson (B-CU) hit her first collegiate home run in the victory over Boston.

Alexis Day (FAMU) went 5-for-16, with two RBI and one double, at the UCF Invitational Tournament.

Kenya Pereira (FAMU) fanned seven batters in 12 innings against #20 Kentucky and Central Florida.

Samantha Casarez (MDES) recorded six hits, including one double and one home run, at the Campbell Invitational.

Erin Hallman (MDES) earned her first-career victory with a complete-game shutout win over North Carolina Central.

Cortni Jones (SSU) batted .538, with three runs scored and four RBI, to earn All-Tournament honors at the Stetson Lead Off Classic.
