MEAC Track & Field Weekly Honors
Savannah State sophomore Morgan Ellis-Foster and freshman Cayla Williams were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men’s and women’s outdoor track athletes of the week respectively. Fellow SSU Tigers Malik Franklin and Ravyn Mike were named men's and women's field performers of the week.
Ellis-Foster (So., Philadelphia, Pa.) won the 400-meter hurdles at the SSU Tiger Relays with a time of 53.13, the best in the MEAC and the third-fastest in the NCAA. He also finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles preliminary round with a time of 15.27, the third-fastest time in the MEAC and the 27th-fastest in the NCAA.
Williams (Fr., Kissimmee, Fla.) finished first in the preliminary round of the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.27 to record the best MEAC time and the 33rd-best time in the NCAA and finished third in the finals with a time of 13.11 at the Tiger Orange and Blue Classic. She also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.29 for the fourth-best MEAC time at the Tiger Orange and Blue Classic. Williams ran the last leg of the 4x100-meter team to win the event at the Savannah State Tiger Relays for the second-best MEAC time and the 26th-best mark in the NCAA.
Mike (Jr., Sanford, Fla.) finished second in the long jump with a jump of 5.19 meters (17-0.5) to record the best mark in the MEAC at this point of the season. She finished fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 10.63 meters (34-10.5) to record the seventh-best jump in the MEAC.
Franklin (Jr., Covington, Ga.) has posted two top-10 marks in the country in the long jump and triple jump. He won the triple jump with a distance of 14.82 (48-7.5) meters for the best mark in the MEAC and is sixth in the NCAA. Franklin finished second in the long jump with a jump of 7.09 meters (23-3.25) for the second-best mark in the conference and eighth-best in the country.
