MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors

Bethune-Cookman junior Kailey Richard was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Florida A&M’s Kenya Pereira earned Pitcher of the Week honors, while Mariah Estrada, of Bethune-Cookman, was named Rookie of the Week.
Richard (C/INF, 5-3, Jr., Highland, Calif.) batted .636 in five games last week. She led the Wildcats against non-conference opponent North Florida, going 3-for-3 at the plate. She finished the week with seven hits, including three doubles, four runs scored and one walk. Defensively, Richard was perfect in the field, picking up 17 putouts with six assists at second base.
Pereira (P, 5-5, Sr., Kissimmee, Fla.) went 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA against Savannah State. She pitched a complete game shutout victory, scattering one hit with five strikeouts, in an ESPNU televised game. Pereira pitched another complete game in the second game of the series. She fanned eight batters and allowed two earned runs.
Estrada (P, 5-4, Fr., Palm Desert, Calif.) collected her fifth and sixth wins of the season, with a 0.62 ERA, against North Florida and South Carolina State. She scattered four hits with four strikeouts in 4.1 scoreless innings against South Carolina State. Estrada pitched a total of 11.1 innings and allowed just six hits in 40 batters faced.

Jamesia Stoudemire (FAMU) scored the only run, a solo home run, to give the Rattlers a 1-0 victory over Savannah State.
Kamryn Tillman (HOW) notched three hits, including a home run, in a victory over Norfolk State.
Milan Poindexter (HOW) went 4-for-9 at the plate, including one double and one triple, in three games against Norfolk State.
Sara Jo Whaley (MDES) batted .417, including two multi-hit games, in four games against UMBC and Hampton.
Amy Begg (MSU) pitched two complete-game victories to help the Lady Bears to their first series victory over Delaware State.
Alyssa Green (NCAT) belted a solo home run to give the Aggies their first score of the game against Western Carolina.
Meaghan Barfield (NSU) hit 3-for-3, with one double, and scored one run against Howard.
Devon Bitler (NSU) hit a two-run single in the 7-4 win over Howard.
