MDES' Rhoda Grabs Top Seed in USBC Singles
BATON ROUGE, La.—The University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Jacqueline Rhoda (Portage, Indiana) grabbed the No. 1 seed during qualifying at the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Singles Championship on Tuesday.
The sophomore averaged a 217.5 over six games at the Raising Cane’s River Center and was ranked No. 1 out of the 24 competing collegiate women heading into bracket play on Wednesday.
Her high for the day came in the seventh game when she put up a 270, which followed a 245 in Game 5.
She is the only member of the Hawks to qualify to compete in the individual championships. She did so back on March 10 when she averaged a 205.3 over six traditional games at the Sectional qualifier in Allentown, Pa.
Rhoda is pretty familiar with the River Center by now, having spent four days bowling there last week. She is coming off an up-and-down performance at the NCAA Championship where she averaged a 180.5, but then rebounded to have a strong showing in Baker games during bracket play particularly against Nebraska.
The Hawks will compete in USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships beginning Thursday.
