SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Bethune-Cookman's Michael Tiller finished eighth in the triple jump late Friday at the USATF Outdoor National Championships at Sacramento State.

Tiller advanced to the final eight with a leap of 52 feet, 10 and three-quarters inches on his third attempt. He had a 53-3 on his final attempt – four inches shy of his NCAA East Preliminary championship leap, but was unable to move past 2009 Indoor and Outdoor National champion Brandon Roulhac for seventh.

Tiller needed a top four finish to make the U.S. national team for August's IAAF World Championship in London. He was 12th in the NCAA Outdoor Championships earlier this month.

Three-time Olympic medalist Will Claye won the competition by a foot and half, posting a top mark of 58 feet, nine and one-quarter inches. The leap made him the No. 9-ranked triple jumper in history as well as the No. 4-ranked American all-time.
