PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- MEAC play got off to a great start for Maryland Eastern on Friday, as the Hawks fended off a strong comeback challenge for the defending champion Howard Bison to earn a 3-2 win (29-27, 25-24, 13-25, 15-25, 15-11) at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center.
Coppin State 3, Norfolk State 1
NORFOLK, Va. -- Coppin State began MEAC conference play on Friday by ending a 20-match losing streak, defeating the Spartans of Norfolk State in four sets. The win marks first-year head coach Timothy Walsh's first victory as the leader of the volleyball program.
Hampton 3, Morgan State 0
HAMPTON, Va. -- The Richardson sisters, Ravyn and Reeana, had 11 kills apiece to lead Hampton on Friday night as it defeated Morgan State 25-22, 25-19, 26-24 in the Lady Pirates' MEAC Northern Division opener in Holland Hall.

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Bethune-Cookman opened MEAC play on Friday with a straight-set road win over Savannah State, thanks in large part to 10 kills from Alana Handy.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- The Florida A&M volleyball team opened its MEAC schedule on the right foot Friday night, beating South Carolina State 3-0 at Dukes Gymnasium.

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- Delaware State returned to action Friday night with a non-conference tilt against Rider, falling in straight sets (18-25, 15-25, 14-25).
