MEAC Announces Weekly Volleyball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 2, 2017Howard senior Khaila Donaldson was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Florida A&M’s Candelaria Herrera and North Carolina A&T State’s Courteney Pitt were named Co-Rookies of the Week, while Hampton freshman Maja Petronijevic earned Defensive Specialist of the Week honors and Bethune-Cookman senior Phalen Clark was named Setter of the Week.

Donaldson (5-11, Sr., OH, Vernon Hills, Ill.) recorded a pair of double-doubles for the Bison this past weekend – including a 19-kill, 13-dig effort against Maryland Eastern Shore, a match in which she also had four total blocks and two service aces. Donaldson, the Preseason Player of the Year, also had 11 kills and 11 digs, hitting .318, in a sweep of Delaware State.

Herrera (6-1, Fr., MB, San Juan, Argentina) hit .545 in three matches this past week, including a sweep of South Carolina State and a five-set win over Savannah State to open MEAC play. In the Savannah State match, Herrera had 15 kills and just one error, hitting .667, while also racking up four total blocks. Herrera also went error-free against South Carolina State, hitting .636 and recording seven kills.

Pitt (6-1, Fr., OH, Farmville, N.C.) was key in the Aggies’ five-set win over rival North Carolina Central to open conference play. She racked up 13 kills in the match, while also chipping in a pair of service aces, two total blocks and three digs on defense.

Petronijevic (5-6, Fr., DS, Belgrade, Serbia) averaged 5.6 digs per set for the weekend, including a season-high 20 against Morgan State. She also had 14 digs in a straight-set win over Coppin State on Sunday, giving her an average of 17 digs per match to open conference play.

Clark (5-10, Sr., S, Baton Rouge, La.) averaged 11.4 assists per set, recording at least 36 assists in each match. She had 41 assists and 17 digs in a non-conference match against South Florida, before adding 37 assists and nine digs in the MEAC opener against Savannah State. In Sunday’s match at South Carolina State, Clark had 36 assists, seven digs, four total blocks and a service ace.

Other Top Performers
Faith Landreneaux (B-CU) hit .327 in three matches this past week, including a .538 clip (nine kills) against South Carolina State.

Rechez Lindsay (B-CU) had 17 digs against South Florida before adding 14 more in the team’s MEAC opener against Savannah State.

Rakaya Neely (B-CU) had nine kills and five total blocks against South Carolina State, hitting .667 for the match.

Angel Jamerson (CSU) racked up 31 assists, seven digs, seven kills, three total blocks and an ace against Norfolk State.

Christa Johnson (CSU) notched six kills each against Norfolk State and Hampton.

Glorines Rosado (CSU) had 18 digs in the Eagles' win over Norfolk State.

Maria Yvette Garcia (FAMU) had 17 kills in a five-set win over Savannah State.

Mallory Beard (HAM) had 18 assists in a straight-set win over Morgan State.

Lena Reed-Petracek (HAM) had 18 assists each in wins over Morgan State and Coppin State.

Lena Washington (HAM) had 11 kills, seven digs and three total blocks in a straight-set win over Coppin State.

Tamia Dockery (HOW) had 38 assists and 16 digs against Maryland Eastern Shore before recording 39 assists against Delaware State.

Fola Wilson (HOW) racked up 20 digs against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Maja Jankovic (MDES) had 20 digs, five assists and two service aces in a five-set win over Howard.

Mere Serea (MDES) had six total blocks against Howard.

Keana Browne (MSU) had 18 kills on .464 hitting in a five-set win over Norfolk State.

Jasmin Hubbard (MSU) racked up 21 digs against Norfolk State.

Mykaela Ross (MSU) had nine kills and eight digs against Norfolk State.

Roi Wallace (MSU) had 41 assists, three service aces and two total blocks in a five-set win over Norfolk State.

Edie Brewer (NCAT) had 31 assists and eight digs against North Carolina Central.

Samara Brown (NCAT) notched a double-double (14 kills, 10 digs) in a five-set win over North Carolina Central.

Milanna Morgan (NCAT) had 17 digs and three service aces against North Carolina Central.

Clarke Tyler (NSU) hit .463 for the weekend and averaged 3.3 kills per set – including 19 against Morgan State.

Leiri Melendez (SSU) had 22 digs in a five-set loss to Florida A&M and averaged 4.12 digs per set for the weekend.
