PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- With a 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-12) triumph, Maryland Eastern Shore leapfrogged opponent Hampton in the standings, remaining a perfect 3-0 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play and moving into first place in the Northern Division.

Sophomore Iva Vujosevic led the match with 14 kills and amassed a .478 hitting percentage. Immediately behind her was junior Rachel Kayongo with 13 kills and a .476 hitting percentage. Sophomore Ivana Blazevic added 36 assists, an average of 12 per set.

The Hawks hit .297 for the match, compared to .171 for Hampton, and outpaced the Pirates in assists 42-22, digs 30-25, aces eight to three, and blocks five to four.

Maryland Eastern Shore took control of each set early and rode the momentum to win. The only set that proved close was the first when the Pirates used a 5-0 run to pull ahead by one, 22-21. Both teams played to a 23-23 tie before Kayongo delivered a kill and the Pirates committed a setting error, allowing the Hawks to win.

Following the two point victory the Hawks overwhelmed the Pirates in sets two and three, winning the second set by eight then using an 8-1 run—with the only Hampton point coming off an Eastern Shore service error—to earn a convincing 25-12 margin in the third set to claim victory.

Maryland Eastern Shore improves to 16-6 (3-0 MEAC), while Hampton falls to 8-11 (3-1 MEAC).
