MEAC Announces Weekly Volleyball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 9, 2017Bethune-Cookman senior Rakaya Neely and Howard senior Khaila Donaldson were named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today. North Carolina A&T State’s Edie Brewer was named Rookie of the Week, while North Carolina Central junior Bree Simmons earned Defensive Specialist of the Week honors and Howard junior Tamia Dockery was named Setter of the Week.

Neely (6-1, Sr., MB, Lake Wales, Fla.) became Bethune-Cookman’s all-time leader in career blocks against Florida A&M, and her 10 total blocks in that match tied the program record for most blocks in a single match. She also had five kills and four digs in that match, hitting .308 as Bethune-Cookman swept the Southern Division preseason favorite Rattlers. Earlier in the week, Neely had 10 kills and six total blocks in a five-set battle at Jacksonville.

Donaldson (5-11, Sr., OH, Vernon Hills, Ill.) averaged 3.8 kills and 2.9 digs per set this past week, hitting .315 over the course of three matches. She opened the week with a 12-kill, 10-dig performance against George Washington, before adding 13 kills and 12 digs against Morgan State. On Sunday, she had 13 kills, seven digs, two total blocks and two service aces in a straight-set win over Coppin State, hitting .444.

Brewer (6-0, Fr., S/RS, West Chester, Ohio) recorded the first triple-double for North Carolina A&T State since 1994 when she recorded 13 kills, 25 assists and 11 digs in a four-set non-conference win over Gardner-Webb. She also had three total blocks and two service aces in that match, and Brewer also had 16 assists and nine kills – on a season-best .643 hitting percentage – in a straight-set win over Savannah State.

Simmons (5-5, Jr., L, Henderson, N.C.) averaged 4.7 digs per set in helping North Carolina Central pick up its first two wins of the season this past weekend. After notching 12 digs in a straight-set win over South Carolina State on Friday, Simmons racked up 21 digs on Sunday in a four-set win over Savannah State.

Dockery (5-8, Jr., S, Richmond, Texas) averaged 10.8 assists and 3.7 digs per set, recording three double-doubles this past week as Howard went 3-0. She racked up 39 assists and 11 digs in a straight-set win over Coppin State after recording 36 assists and 16 digs against Morgan State. Dockery opened the week with 33 assists and 10 digs in the Bison’s straight-set, non-conference win over George Washington.

Other Top Performers
Phalen Clark (B-CU) had two double-doubles on the week: 49 assists and 15 digs against Jacksonville and 24 assists and 11 digs against Florida A&M.

Faith Landreneaux (B-CU) had seven kills and three total blocks against Jacksonville, before recording four total blocks against Florida A&M.

Rechez Lindsay (B-CU) averaged 3.0 digs per set in two matches, recording 13 against Jacksonville and 11 against Florida A&M.

Christa Johnson (CSU) recorded six kills and a .462 hitting percentage against Howard.

Dominique Madarang (CSU) had 34 assists, six digs and five kills in a non-conference match against Lafayette.

Glorines Rosado (CSU) had 20 digs against Lafayette.

Gabriella Enriquez (DSU) had 37 assists and 10 digs against Hampton, before setting a career high with 44 assists against Norfolk State.

Alliyah McBean (DSU) had 23 digs against Norfolk State.

Kyndall Nicholas (HAM) had 15 kills and four blocks against Delaware State, before adding four more blocks against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Jurnee Tipton (HOW) had 11 kills and 14 digs against Morgan State.

Ivana Blazevic (MDES) racked up 36 assists against Hampton and averaged 9.8 assists per set in three matches.

Iva Vujosevic (MDES) had 14 kills and 17 digs against VCU, before adding 14 kills against Hampton.

Mykaela Ross (MSU) had 10 kills and six digs against Howard.

Roi Wallace (MSU) had 33 assists and a career-high 16 digs against Howard.

Milanna Morgan (NCAT) averaged 3.1 digs per set, including a season-high 18 against Gardner-Webb.

Megan Wiggins (NCAT) had 15 assists each in wins over Gardner-Webb and South Carolina State.

Da’Nesha Miller (NCCU) had 15 kills and 12 digs in a four-set win over Savannah State.

Paige Phillips (NCCU) had a season-high 43 assists and 16 digs against Savannah State for her fourth double-double of the season.

Jill Aquino (NSU) racked up 48 assists in a five-set loss to Delaware State.

Melvina Brown (NSU) had 21 digs against Delaware State and averaged 4.5 digs per set for the weekend.

Taylor Eichelberger (NSU) had 17 kills against Delaware State.

Salma Gonzalez (SSU) had 15 assists, 15 digs and nine kills in a four-set loss to North Carolina Central.

Leiri Melendez (SSU) had 18 digs against North Carolina Central.
