MEAC Announces Weekly Volleyball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 30, 2017Morgan State senior Keana Browne and Bethune-Cookman senior Rakaya Neely were named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today. Morgan State’s Mykaela Ross and Norfolk State’s Taylor Eichelberger were named Co-Rookies of the Week, while Hampton junior Maja Petronijevic earned Defensive Specialist of the Week honors and Bethune-Cookman senior Phalen Clark was named Setter of the Week.

Browne (6-2, Sr., MB/RS, Virginia Beach, Va.) hit .307 for the weekend in leading Morgan State to a pair of conference victories – including a five-set upset over Hampton on Friday. In that match, Browne had 11 kills, a career-high eight total blocks and four digs, hitting .273. She followed that up on Sunday with an eight-kill, four-dig, .353 performance in a straight-set victory over Norfolk State.

Neely (6-1, Sr., MB, Lake Wales, Fla.) hit .444 against South Carolina State on Sunday, recording 10 kills to go along with six digs and five total blocks in one of her most complete matches of the season. This came after a nine-kill, two-block effort against Savannah State, and in six total sets over the weekend, Neely hit a combined .400 as Bethune-Cookman remained unbeaten in conference play.

Ross (5-7, Fr., OH, Farmington Hills, Mich.) had nine kills, 11 digs, six total blocks and a service ace in the Lady Bears’ five-set win over Hampton, falling one kill shy of a double-double. She followed that up with three service aces in a straight-set win over Norfolk State on Sunday.

Eichelberger (5-10, Fr., OH, Roanoke, Va.) set a school record for kills in a match on Friday, when she racked up 28 kills in a four-set match at Coppin State. She hit .460 for the match, while also recording five digs and four total blocks. She also had six kills and five digs against Morgan State.

Petronijevic (5-5, Jr., DS/L, Belgrade, Serbia) averaged 4.25 digs per set for the Lady Pirates – including 23 in a five-set thriller at Morgan State on Friday. Following that, she added 11 digs in a straight-set win over Coppin State on Sunday. Petronijevic also had a service ace in each match.

Clark (5-10, Sr., S, Baton Rouge, La.) averaged 12.5 assists per set as Bethune-Cookman picked up wins over Savannah State and South Carolina State. She had 40 assists in the straight-set win over South Carolina State, after recording 35 assists and 14 digs, to go along with two service aces, against Savannah State.

Other Top Performers
Jordan Jefferson (B-CU) had 10 digs against Savannah State.

Rechez Lindsay (B-CU) racked up 23 digs against South Carolina State.

Glorines Rosado (CSU) had 19 digs and three service aces in a win over Norfolk State.

Lena Reed-Petracek (HAM) had 45 assists and five kills against Morgan State, before adding 38 assists against Coppin State.

Reeana Richardson (HAM) had 19 kills against Morgan State and 13 against Coppin State.

Carlise Cardoza (HOW) had 18 digs in a five-set loss to Maryland Eastern Shore.

Tamia Dockery (HOW) had 47 assists and 14 digs against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Jessica Young (HOW) had 12 kills and 10 digs against Maryland Eastern Shore, before adding 11 kills at Delaware State.

Maja Jankovic (MDES) had 24 digs in a con-conference match at La Salle, before adding 15 against Howard.

Rachel Kayongo (MDES) had double-doubles at La Salle (11 kills, 11 digs) and Howard (11 kills, 10 digs).

Jasmin Hubbard (MSU) racked up 16 digs against Hampton.

Roi Wallace (MSU) had 43 assists against Hampton and averaged 8.5 assists per set for the weekend.

Edie Brewer (NCAT) had 19 assists and eight digs in a straight-set win over North Carolina Central.

Alyssa Pitt (NCAT) had nine kills and three total blocks against North Carolina Central.

Courteney Pitt (NCAT) had 11 kills against North Carolina Central.

Camille Uaidiale (NCAT) had five total blocks against North Carolina Central.

Jill Aquino (NSU) had 39 assists against Coppin State.

Tyran Chenault (SSU) averaged 1.10 blocks per set in three matches, including seven total at Bethune-Cookman.

Leiri Melendez (SSU) had 16 assists at Bethune-Cookman, after recording 15 against Mercer.

Amanda Rullan Vilanova (SSU) had 10 kills in a non-conference match against Mercer.
