MEAC Announces Women's Basketball Honors

Norfolk State's Whitney Long was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. North Carolina A&T's Tiffanie Adair earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Hampton's Keiara Avant earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Long (Guard, 5-4, Sr., Raleigh, N.C.) scored 27 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the floor to guide the Spartans to a 78-73 overtime win against Delaware State. Long was 2-of-6 from 3-point range and 5-of-7 from the free-throw line with two assists. Defensively, she recorded seven steals and one block in the victory.

Adair (Forward, 5-11, So., Duncan, S.C.) averaged a double-double of 13.0 points and 12.0 points to aid the Lady Aggies in two conference victories. Against Savannah State, she led her team with 14 points and 14 rebounds and was 10-of-15 from the free-throw line. She followed that performance with 12 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks for her fifth double-double of the season.

Avant (Forward, 5-11, Jr., Chesapeake, Va.) pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds with one block and one steal in a win over Maryland Eastern Shore. Led by Avant's defensive efforts, the Lady Pirates held UMES to the second-lowest scoring output of the season with 29 points.

Other Top Performers:

Paris Alston (SCSU) averaged 13.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in two conference games last week.

Antonia Bennett (FAMU) scored 14 points, 13 rebounds and blocked four shots in a win against Savannah State.

JaQuayla Berry (NCAT) combined for 32 points, 17 rebounds, two blocks and three steals in to victories for the Lady Aggies.

Tasia Bristow (DSU) tallied 31 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and six steals to aid DSU to a 1-1 mark last week.

Qiana Donald (FAMU) scored 13 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Savannah State.

Saadia Doyle (Howard) averaged 15.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in games against Bethune-Cookman and Coppin State.

Nadirah Durr (DSU) totaled 11 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks and four steals in two games for the Lady Hornets.

Demetria Frank (B-CU) scored 20 points with eight rebounds and five steals in a win against South Carolina State.

Tierra Hawkins (DSU) averaged a double-double of 20.0 points and 10.5 points to aid the Lady Hornets to a 1-1 mark last week.

Tiana Hemphill (SCSU) scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds with three steals in two Lady Bulldog games.

Tamoria Holmes (Howard) combined for 41 points and seven rebounds in two games last week.

Kwinnyata Mercer (UMES) totaled 25 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Hawks. 

Batavia Owens (NSU) recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Delaware State.

Shanyce Stewart (UMES) recorded a career-high 15 rebounds in a loss to Hampton.

Chasidy Williams (NCCU) averaged a double-double with 21.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in two conference games.
