Maryland Eastern Shore Women Win Cappy Anderson Invitational Title
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — Senior Khalil Rmidi Kinini (Malaga, Spain) won the men’s race at the annual Cappy Anderson Invite, but it the was the women’s team who earned a team victory with four top ten finishes.
Freshman Sharon Jerop led the charge for the women, finishing second with a time of 18:44.11 in the 5k. Right behind her was senior Jennaya Hield, who finished with a time of 19:04.37 to take third. With times of 19:17.60 and 19:17.72, respectively, freshmen Neus Quinonero and Silvia Guerra, took fifth and sixth to round out the Hawks’ top ten.
Rmidi Kinini won the 9200 meter men’s race with a time of 27:28.98 to lead the men. Junior Stanley Meli ran a time of 28:42.83 to come in eighth, and sophomore Jordan Leon finished with a mark of 28:53.89 to take ninth place and give Maryland Eastern Shore three top ten runners.
Lady Pirates Open Season At William & Mary Invitational
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Hampton Lady Pirates cross country team opened competition on Friday night participating in the 58th annual William & Mary Cross Country Invitational held at Eastern State Hospital.
Leading Hampton on the night was Pollyanna Velasco who covered the 5k course in 18:51.27 to finish in 28th. Freshman Asia Johnson was just one-hundreth of a second behind Velasco finishing in 18:51.28 and in 29th position. Another freshman came in 36th as Alycia Higgins ran 18:51.40 with Amanda Delacruz coming in 39th at 18:52.05. Rounding out the five counting times for Hampton was junior Kayla Key who was 44th in 18:52.17.
