Hampton Teams Finish Third At CNU Invitational
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Hampton University cross country teams stayed local on Saturday as they competed in the Christopher Newport University Invitational held at Lee Hall Mansion as both teams finished third in the NCAA Division I races.
Emmanuel Too was second to lead Hampton's men as he covered the 8k Lee Hall Mansion course running a 25:50. This marked the second straight top four finish for Too.  Geoffrey McCullough was fourth covering the 8k Lee Hall Mansion course in 26:02.  Stanley Davis was 12th in 26:45, Teyvon Burris was 17th in 28:51 and Eric Ellis was 18th in 31:39 to round out the Hampton scorers. 
William & Mary won the men's race with 27 points and VCU edged Hampton for second scoring 50 points to the Pirates 51.
For the women, the five scoring Lady Pirates paced in the 15-23 range as Hampton finished third in the NCAA Division I race.  Asia Johnson was 15th to lead Hampton in 24:11.0 with Kayla Key (16th/24:13) and Pollyanna Velasco (17th/24:18) were in the first wave for Hampton.   Rounding out the top five was Alycia Higgins in 22nd at 24:46 and Amanda Delacruz in 23rd in 24:48.0
VCU won the women's race with 22 points and William & Mary took second with 42 as Hampton scored 86 points.

 

 

Spartans Finish 13th at the NCAA Pre-Nationals
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Norfolk State men's cross country team finished 13th out of 22 teams in the men’s white race at the NCAA Pre-National Meet on Saturday. The race was ran at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind.
NSU finished the meet with 273 points.  The buckeye state was well represented as teams finishing in the top three include Ohio (132), Miami of Ohio (159), and Cincinnati (178).
Junior Ronald Korir finished 11th overall in a time of 25:11.8, while sophomore Anteneh Girma crossed the line in a 25:57.1, in 46th place. Freshmen Felix Kiprotich (26:01.1) and Festus Bett (26:13.5) placed 52nd and 63rd overall, respectively. Sophomore Tomas Fantaye rounded out the Spartans top five in 106th-place with a time of 26:53.5.

 

 

NSU’s Higgins Places Seventh at CNU Invitational
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Candice Higgins finished in seventh 7th place to pace the Norfolk State women's cross country team on Saturday at the Christopher Newport Invitational. She has been the fastest Spartan in each meet this season.
The Spartans placed fourth out of the four Division I teams competing at the meet. VCU won the women’s race with 22 points, followed by William and Mary with 42, Hampton with 86 and NSU with 90.
Higgins finished the 6,000-meter course in 22 minutes, 57 seconds. Ashah Koech placed 18th in a time of 24:22.00.
Freshman Caroline Samoei was the Spartans’ third finisher, placing 20th (24:31.00). She was followed by Linei Woodson in 25th (25:11) and Nelly Jerop in 28th (26:09).

 

Rmidi Kinini takes second at Princeton Invitational
PRINCETON, N.J. — In 2015, Hawks senior Khalil Rmidi Kinini (Malaga, Spain) was exceptional at the Princeton Invitational, finishing in sixth place. He topped that on Saturday in the 2016 edition of the meet with a runner-up time of 24:02.9 in New Jersey.
For Rmidi Kinini, his time improved by six seconds from the 2015 race and was the fastest 8k mark of his Hawk career. The senior was one second behind the winner, James Randon of Yale.
Overall the Hawk men took 12th while the women came in 19th.
Other top performers include senior Mark Blackmon taking 45th place with a time of 25:01.2 and freshman Sharon Jerop leading the women with a 96th place time 23:17.8 in the 6k event.
Senior Jennaya Hield, freshmen Silvia Guerra and Neus Quinonero and junior Dypna Umunakw rounded out the scoring for the women. Junior Donovan Mundy, senior Nassor Whitehead and sophomore Jordan Leon contributed to the men’s score.
