MEAC MEN’S AND WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP SET FOR OCT. 29
NORFOLK, Va. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will host the 2016 Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 29 at the Delaware State University (DSU) Outreach and Research Center in Smyrna, Del.
The championships will begin with the women’s five-kilometer (5k) race at 9:45 a.m., followed by the men’s eight-kilometer (8k) race at 10:30 a.m.
On the women’s side, Florida A&M looks to secure its fifth consecutive title. The Lady Rattlers, who won the Berry Invitational, have four runners in the Top 10 of conference times this season. Judith Kibii holds the top time in the MEAC on a 5k course, with a time of 17:59.70 at the Mountain Dew Invitational.
Maryland Eastern Shore, the defending MEAC men’s champions, come into the meet seeking its third straight title. The Hawks won three meets this season, including the DSU Hornet Invite, the DSU Farm Run Invitational and the Cppy Anderson Invitational. Khalil Rmidi Kinini earned the top time in the MEAC on an 8k course this season, with a mark of 24:02.90 at the Princeton Invitational.
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month, MEAC student-athletes will wear pink racing bibs and head coaches will wear pink ribbon pins during the championships. The MEAC encourages fans to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month also.
On Friday, Oct. 28, the MEAC will team up with DSU to host the second annual Power of PINK 5k Run/Walk. Registration begins at 3:30 p.m. at the DSU Wellness & Recreation Center, with the 5k scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. All proceeds will go to local breast cancer research organizations.
The 2016 MEAC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships are free and open to the public.
