WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – For the second straight season, the Augusta University men's golf team was one spot away from advancing to the NCAA Championships after missing the cut by just three strokes in the final day of the NCAA West Lafayette Regional on Wednesday. Augusta shot a 21-over 885 overall at the Kampen Course to take a tie for sixth with St. Mary's.

The top-five teams and low individual not on those teams advance to the NCAA Championships, May 26-31, at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois. Northern Illinois University is the host institution for the 2017 championships. No. 17 UNLV stole the top spot and won the regional at 8-over par. No. 20 Auburn ascended to second (+11), No. 8 Illinois climbed three spots for third (+14), No. 44 New Mexico slid to fourth, and host No. 38 Purdue snagged the fifth and final spot at 21-over par on their home course.

Illinois State's Trent Wallace edged out Augusta senior Emmanuel Kountakis by one shot to earn the low individual title and earn a bid to the finals.

Kountakis remained in the top 10 in the last two rounds and led Augusta in a tie for eighth (+2) after shooting 75 (+3) on Wednesday. Jaguar senior Jake Marriott dropped three strokes from his score in the last round and shot a 71 (-1) for his low round of the tourney to climb to 10th place (+3).

Junior Broc Everett also carded his best outing of the event with a 1-under 71 in round three to take a tie for 21st (+7), senior Viktor Edin placed 44th (+12), and freshman Gustav Andersson tied for 72nd (+20). The event marks the last collegiate competition for AU senior trio Viktor Edin, Emmanuel Kountakis, and Jake Marriott.

The regional appearance was the 20th in program history for Augusta and the third in a row for head coach Jack O'Keefe (1993, '94, '95, 98', '99, 00', '01, '02, '03, '04, '05, '07, '08, '09, '10, '11, '12, '15, '16, and '17). Augusta also finished sixth at last year's 2016 NCAA Regional and missed a trip to the finals by two shots.
