MEAC Completes Day Two of 2017 Bowling Championships
CHESAPEAKE, Va., March 25, 2017—The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) completed the second day of the 2017 MEAC Bowling Championship at the AMF Lanes on Saturday.
The top two seeds entering the day, Maryland Eastern Shore and North Carolina A&T State, both went 3-0 on Saturday to advance to the championship match. MDES, the top seed thanks to the highest total pinfall on Friday, opened play on Saturday with a 4-0 win over Bethune-Cookman, before beating No. 4 Norfolk State 4.5-3.5 in a tiebreaker and taking care of No. 5 Howard 4.5-1.5.
North Carolina A&T State, the No. 2 seed and MEAC Southern Division champion, opened Saturday by defeating Florida A&M 4-2, before sweeping No. 6 seed Morgan State twice. Morgan State had advanced to a shot at the championship final, thanks in large part to defeating No. 3 seed Delaware State – the MEAC Northern Division champion – twice on Saturday.
Howard had given itself a shot at the championship final by defeating Norfolk State 4-1.
North Carolina A&T State will be looking for its first MEAC bowling championship since 2004, while MDES last won the tournament in 2015. Since the MEAC began holding a championship tournament for bowling in 2000, Maryland Eastern Shore has won eight titles and the Lady Aggies have won four.
The 2017 MEAC Bowling Championship wraps up on Sunday with the championship final at 12 p.m. The championship match will be televised via tape-delay on ESPNU on Sunday, April 2 at 9 p.m.
Admission is free and open to the public.
