MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors
Bethune-Cookman freshman Ryan Jackson was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Teammate Sabrina Anguiano earned Pitcher of the Week honors, while Jamesia Stoudemire, of Florida A&M, and Hannah Shields, of Delaware State, were named Co-Rookies of the Week.
Jackson (INF, 5-6, Fr., Chino Hills, Calif.) batted .519 with 14 hits, seven runs, four doubles, one triple and 13 RBI to help the Wildcats to a 3-5 week. She notched three home runs over eight games, including two in a doubleheader against George Mason. She went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI in a 10-4 victory over Fairfield. Defensively, Jackson recorded 10 putouts and one assist.
Anguiano (P, 5-2, Sr., Hacienda Heights, Calif.) went 3-1 last week with a 2.30 ERA. She registered wins over St. Joseph’s and Fairfield, at the USF Spring Break Tournament, with seven strikeouts in 11 innings. She also allowed no earned runs against Ohio State. Anguiano finished with week with 14 strikeouts in 24.1 innings of action.
Shields (RHP, 5-9, Fr., State College, Pa.) earned her first collegiate win in a complete-game victory over Maryland Eastern Shore. She scattered five hits and allowed just two runs, in seven innings, with six strikeouts.
Stoudemire (INF, 5-9, Fr., Lake Wales, Fla.) went 5-for-16 behind the plate in five games at the USF Spring Break Tournament. She led the Rattlers against Yale with a .750 hitting performance and three RBI. She finished the tournament with four runs on five hits, including five RBI, one double and one triple.
Other Top Performers
Kenya Pereira (FAMU) finished last week with a 3.44 ERA, in 18.1 innings, with 14 strikeouts and four walks.
Taylor Rosier (FAMU) went 7-for-13 at the plate with three doubles, one RBI and three walks at the USF Spring Break Tournament.
Samantha Casarez (MDES) batted .500 with one RBI double and a walk against Delaware State.
Adrienne Guerra (MDES) tied a season-high eight strikeouts against Delaware State.
Lauren Dunlow (NCAT) led the team with two doubles against Liberty. Finished the week with a .600 batting average including an RBI and three hits.
Alexis Singleton (SSU) batted .900 (9-of-10) with two RBI, two stolen bases and a 1.100 slugging percentage in three games played. Finished 4-for-4 from the plate and stole one base against Eastern Illinois.
