Maryland Eastern Shore's Streak Snapped at La Salle
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Maryland Eastern Shore’s seven-match win streak was snapped Tuesday by the La Salle Explorers, who defeated the Hawks in five sets (22-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 13-15) at Tom Gola Arena.
The Hawks (21-7) had a trio of players earn double-doubles. Sophomore Ivana Blazevic secured hers by the second set, ending with 44 assists and 15 digs. Junior Rachel Kayongo supplied 11 kills and 11 digs, while sophomore Iva Vujosevic added a match-high 18 kills with 10 digs.
Other top performances included 24 digs from junior Maja Jankovic and three block assists each from graduate student Mere Serea, senior Alana Polk and junior Lucia Babic.
La Salle (12-13) edged the Hawks in kills 62-60, with 17 coming from Bryanna Davis.
Each set played close, and all five were decided by five points or less. The Explorers took sets one and three, and the Hawks took two and four to force a decisive fifth set. In set five, La Salle used a 5-0 run to build a 9-5 lead. Maryland Eastern Shore made two comeback attempts, trimming the deficit down to one, but each time the Explorers thwarted the effort, ultimately winning 15-13 to take the match.
