MEAC Announces Weekly Baseball Honors
North Carolina A&T State junior Brandon Melendez was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. North Carolina Central's Corey Joyce earned Rookie of the Week honors, while North Carolina A&T State junior Noah “Cutter” Dyals was named Pitcher of the Week.
Melendez (5-9, 175, Jr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) hit .714 (10-for-14) at the plate this past week as the Aggies went 4-0, scoring seven runs and recording four RBIs. He had multiple hits in all four games, including a pair of three-hit games against Savannah State, and he had a double and two RBIs in the series finale. He also drew seven walks and stole four bases in helping the Aggies secure their first MEAC Tournament berth since 2013.
Joyce (6-1, 175, Fr., Lexington, N.C.) was 5-for-12 (.417) at the plate this past week, slugging .667 and boasting a .500 on-base percentage. He scored four times in helping the Eagles win a three-game series against Florida A&M, including a pair in the series finale. He had two hits each in the first and last games of the series, and Joyce also had a double and a triple over the weekend. Defensively, Joyce had four putouts and six assists without an error.
Dyals (5-11, 200, Jr., Tampa, Fla.) made two appearances this past week, recording a save against Winthrop before picking up a win against Savannah State. In a combined 6.0 innings pitched, Dyals scattered four hits, did not give up an earned run, and struck out nine. He had five punchouts against Winthop, pitching his way out of a seventh-inning jam to pick up the save – his sixth of the season.

Corey Treyes (CSU) was 5-for-13 in a series win over Delaware State, racking up three RBIs and scoring two runs.
Ciaran Devenney (DSU) was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two home runs in the second game of a three-game set against Coppin State.
Darnel Maisonet (DSU) hit .545 (6-for-11) in a three-game set against Coppin State with nine RBIs (three in each game), hitting a home run and a double in the finale.
Thomas Nicoll (FAMU) had four strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched in two appearances against No. 7 Florida and North Carolina Central.
Dallas Oliver (FAMU) had three two-hit games for the Rattlers, driving in three runs and scoring four times over the course of the week.
Zach Mills (MDES) struck out eight batters in a seven-inning complete game win over Norfolk State.
Justin Somerville (MDES) was a combined 4-for-8 at the plate in a doubleheader sweep over Norfolk State with an RBI.
Michael Johnson (NCAT) struck out five batters in six innings against Savannah State, scattering five hits and giving up just one earned run.
Landon Fraley (NCCU) struck out four in five innings of shutout ball against Florida A&M.
Ellington Hopkins (NCCU) had eight hits in 13 at-bats, driving in five runs in helping the Eagles take two of three games over Florida A&M, including a home run in the series finale.
Stephen Baughan (NSU) hit .375 (6-for-16) this past week, including a 2-for-5, two-RBI effort against Longwood.
Devin Hemmerich (NSU) struck out 11 over 11 innings pitched in a no-decision against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Alex Mauricio (NSU) went 4-for-6 with three RBIs and four runs scored in a win over Longwood.
