B-CU Baseball Honored by Daytona Beach City Commission
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Mayor Derrick Henry issued a proclamation honoring Bethune-Cookman's 19th Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) baseball championship and a Gainesville Regional effort that saw the Wildcats win more postseason games (three) in 36 hours than the previous 36 years combined, including two wins against nationally-ranked teams on the same day.
The second win came against host Florida – the program's first-ever victory against the Gators – and forced a winner-take-all scenario for the regional championship.
"It is a pleasure to honor the historic achievements of Bethune Cookman baseball,” Mayor Henry said. “Incredible team, incredible season! They had me riveted that weekend.”
The proclamation also recognized the program's community contribution, for bringing “top-level” college competition such as Boston College and Tennessee Tech to storied Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
