NSU Releases 2017-18 Women's Basketball Schedule
NORFOLK, Va., Aug. 16, 2017 – Head coach Larry Vickers and the Norfolk State women’s basketball program released their 2017-18 schedule on Wednesday. Twelve home contests and a Thanksgiving weekend trip to Boca Raton, Fl.a highlight the Spartans’ upcoming slate.
Norfolk State’s home schedule consists of four non-conference matchups and eight regularly-scheduled MEAC games. The Spartans are scheduled for 16 contests away from Echols Hall, including a two-day tournament on the campus of Florida Atlantic in late November.
“I am very excited for our upcoming season,” Vickers said. “We have built a highly-competitive non-conference schedule that will present some great challenges for us, especially in the month of December.”
The Spartans begin their season with a two-game road swing against VCU on Nov. 11 and Navy on Nov. 17. Norfolk State’s home opener is scheduled for Nov. 21 and will be against Loyola (Md.) at 11 a.m. on Future Leaders Day.
The Spartans then travel south for the Florida Atlantic Tournament, which runs Nov. 24-25. NSU opens on Friday against Bowling Green then plays either St. Francis Brooklyn or host FAU the following day.
Norfolk State concludes the November portion of its schedule at home against High Point on Nov. 29 at 5:30 p.m. That game serves as a doubleheader as the men’s team hosts a non-conference foe later the same day. Next, the Spartans head back on the road for a Dec. 2 date against East Carolina.
The Spartans play consecutive home games starting on Dec. 12 against Towson. Three days later UNC-Greensboro visits. Both games are set for 6 p.m.
The calendar year concludes with a three-game road trip, which begins at Campbell on Dec. 18. Norfolk State clashes with William & Mary on Dec. 21 followed by a Dec. 30 tilt with Longwood.
NSU starts 2018 at home with its MEAC opener against Coppin State on Jan. 3 at 5:30 p.m. This year, all conference home games begin at 5:30 p.m. during the week and 4 p.m. on weekends.
The Spartans then leave town for their next four conference games. The Spartans visit North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central on Jan. 6 and Jan. 8, respectively, before concluding the road trip against South Carolina State (Jan. 20) and Savannah State (Jan. 22).
“We return multiple players with a lot of experience, and I am excited about our new recruits,” Vickers said. “However, I am also expecting another great year of MEAC competition and it looks like many of the top teams will be excellent again.”
A three-date homestand awaits the Spartans as January moves into February. Norfolk State hosts Bethune-Cookman on Jan. 27 before facing Florida A&M two days later. NSU begins the final full month of the regular season against Morgan State on Feb. 3.
A Feb. 5 road clash with Bethune-Cookman is followed by the first leg of the Battle of the Bay on Feb. 10 at Hampton.
Up next are three straight home games against Delaware State (Feb. 12), Savannah State (Feb. 17) and South Carolina State (Feb. 19).
The Spartans conclude February with road games against Maryland Eastern Shore on Feb. 24 and Howard two days later.
Norfolk State closes out the regular season on March 1 as Hampton pays the Spartans a visit.
This season’s MEAC Tournament runs March 5-10 at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va.
