Hampton's Tiny Laster named VaSID Coach of the Year

Former Hampton softball coach Tiny L. Laster, Jr. was posthumously honored as the Coach of the Year by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID), while senior third baseman Maggie Wolfe earned first team all-state honors for the second consecutive year. Jennifer Gonzales, Brittany Davis and Amanda Black were also recognized as second team selections.
Laster, who passed away on May 3, led the Lady Pirates to a 14-0 conference record to clinch the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) regular season championship for the first time in school history. Hampton finished the season 36-13 overall giving Laster a career record of 537-303-1.
Wolfe was named the MEAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season after batting .418 and driving in 42 runs while also leading the league in slugging percentage (.719) and on base percentage (.525).
Gonzales, Davis and Black were also first team All-MEAC selections, with Black being honored as the Pitcher of the Year. She posted a record of 21-7 with an earned run average of 1.72, tossing 19 complete games and nine shutouts. Gonzales led the Lady Pirates with 10 home runs on the season and Davis added nine long balls of her own while also adding 30 RBIs and batting .335.
