MEAC Announces Baseball Weekly Honors

North Carolina A&T State University designated hitter Jeremy Jones earned MEAC Player of the Week honors in baseball, the league announced on Monday. Teammate Tim Johnson was named Pitcher of the Week, while Norfolk State’s Chris Joyce earned Rookie of the Week accolades for the second straight week.
Jones (DH, 5-10, Sr., Fayetteville, North Carolina) batted .467 (7-for-15) with one home run, one triple, two doubles and eight RBI to aid the Aggies to a 3-1 record last week. Jones scored six runs and walked twice to extend his hitting streak to 11 straight games.
Joyce (3B, 6-0, So., Chesapeake, Virginia) helped the Spartans to a 2-1 mark, while hitting .300 (3-for-10) last week. He posted one triple, five RBI and walked once. Joyce drove in a career-high four runs to help Norfolk State win game one of a double header against Florida A&M.
Johnson (P, 6-2, Sr., Statesville, North Carolina) pitched a complete game against the Coppin State Eagles, allowing only four hits and striking out 11 of the 26 batters he faced.
Other Top Performers:
Quinn Bright (NSU) posted a 1.13 ERA in eight innings last week in a win over Florida A&M for the Spartans.
Hiram Burgos (B-CU) did not allow a run and struck out seven batters in eight innings for the Wildcats during two games last week.
Jose’ Lozado (B-CU) batted .450 (6-for-20) with one home run, three doubles, four RBI with three stolen bases to help the Wildcats to a 4-1 mark last week.
Josh Schmidt (DSU) struck out six of 27 batters faced in a victory against Bethune-Cookman.
