The Delaware State softball team benefited from two North Carolina A&T errors in the top of the seventh to earn a 5-1 win in the first round of the 2008 MEAC Softball Tournament.
The Hornets were led by Andrea Waters led the Hornets with two hits and two runs scored. Aishia Holloman added two hits and two RBIs, while Jo Jo Shields was 3-for-4 with a RBI.
The Aggies trailed 1-0 going into the home sixth. Lillian Bullock tied the game at 1 on a sacrifice fly that scored Yahamma White. Aggie starter Jennifer Luper opened the seventh by getting Brittany Ruark to groundout. But back-to-back N.C. A&T errors opened the door for a Delaware State to break the game open.
On the Aggies second error of the inning, Courtney Taylor was allowed to go home on fielder’s interference to give the Hornets a 2-1 lead. Waters followed with an infield single to put runners on first and third. After a pop out, Sha Tabor hit a two-out RBI single through the right side to score Megan Lambertz. An infield single by Shields allowed Waters to score for a 4-1 Delaware State lead. Holloman capped the rally with a RBI single through the left side.
The Aggies went in order in their seventh to fall into the loser’s bracket. Yahamma White led the Aggies (31-16-1) with two hits and a run scored. Tangie Conover went 2-for-2 on the day
