NORFOLK, Va. - Savannah State’s Dexter McClanahan has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced today.
Howard's R.J. Cole was named Rookie of the Week while
North Carolina Central’s Raasean Davis was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Week.
McClanahan was the top scorer in the MEAC during the past cycle as he averaged 31 points per game while also grabbing 6.5 rebounds. He also averaged two steals per contest and shot 58.3 percent from the field and 78.6 (11-of-14) percent from the charity stripe. The 6-5, 180-pound junior guard from Stockbridge, Ga. upped SSU’s winning streak to four games which was highlighted by a 31-point, eight-rebound, three-steal overtime performance versus Norfolk State on Monday along with a 25-point, five-rebound outing versus Hampton on Saturday.
Cole continued his solid play as the Bison are now on a two-game winning streak after a pair of overtime wins over North Carolina A&T State and North Carolina Central. Cole, who has now won Rookie of the Week honors for the ninth time and eighth consecutive week of the 2017-18 campaign, was the fourth-leading scorer in the MEAC with 26 points per games while also averaging 6.5 assists and 2.5 steals. He also proved to be a threat from the outside as the 6-1 guard from Union, N.J. nailed eight three-pointers.
Davis made his presence known in the paint over the past two contests as he finished with a total of six blocks in contests at Howard and Norfolk State. The 6-9, 240-pound redshirt junior opened the weekend with a nine-rebound, three-block showing at Howard. He returned to the court on Monday at Norfolk State and played a big role down the stretch with three blocks (two in the second half).

Isaiah Bailey (Bethune-Cookman) set a season-high with a 23-point performance in the win over Delaware State while shooting 14-of-15 at the free throw line.
Marquis Collins (Delaware State) collected his second 20-point performance of the season while shooting 50 percent from the floor against Bethune-Cookman.
Zion Cousins (Howard) averaged 10 points and 9.5 rebounds in overtime wins against North Carolina Central and North Carolina A&T State.
Karonn Davis (Coppin State) matched his career-high with 22 points in an overtime win at home versus Morgan State while playing 44 minutes.
Reggie Gardner, Jr. (North Carolina Central) led the Eagles in scoring with 18 points per game while shooting 59.1 percent from the field and 58.3 percent from the perimeter.
Alex Long (Norfolk State) averaged 16 points and six rebounds over the course of a three-game span against North Carolina A&T State, South Carolina State and Savannah State.
Jermaine Marrow (Hampton) averaged 30 points, four rebounds and 5.5 assists against Savannah State and South Carolina State.
Logan McIntosh (Maryland Eastern Shore) averaged 17.5 points per game which was highlighted by a 26-point performance versus North Carolina Central.
Lamar Morgan (Coppin State) recorded 24 points and nine rebounds while putting up a solid defensive effort to defeat Morgan State.
Jordan Perkins (North Carolina Central) averaged 10 points and 7.5 assists in two games at Howard and Norfolk State.
Mastadi Pitt (Norfolk State) averaged 11 points and three rebounds during a three-game span. He scored 17 points in a road win at South Carolina State.
Brandon Tabb (Bethune-Cookman) scored 27 points in his lone contest on Saturday versus Delaware State in addition to tallying four assists, two steals and a perfect game from the free throw line (8-of-8).
Miryne Thomas (Maryland Eastern Shore) finished with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds against North Carolina Central.
Malique Trent-Street (Hampton) averaged 19 points, 2.5 steals and six rebounds in two games at South Carolina State and Hampton. He also scored 28 points off the bench against Savannah State.
Charles Williams (Howard) recorded his fifth-straight 20-plus point performance in overtime wins over North Carolina Central and North Carolina A&T State.
