NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 23, 2018Delaware State junior NaJai Pollard was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. North Carolina Central’s Kieche White and Maryland Eastern Shore’s Bairesha Gill-Miles earned Co-Rookie of the Week honors, while Howard sophomore Jayla Myles was named Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Pollard (F, 5-11, Jr., Richmond, Va.) averaged 21.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 2.0 steals per contest this past week, while going a combined 14-for-31 (.452) from the floor. She recorded double-doubles in both games – going for 28 points and 13 rebounds against Bethune-Cookman, before turning in a 15-point, 11-rebound effort in a win over Morgan State. She also blocked five shots in the Morgan State game, after racking up three steals against Bethune-Cookman.
 
White (G, 5-4, Fr., Washington, D.C.) averaged 17.5 points per game this past week, including a career-best 28-point effort against Maryland Eastern Shore – a game in which she went 10-for-14 (.714) from the floor and made six of her eight 3-pointers. For the week, White was a combined 13-for-22 (.591) from the floor and a scorching 7-for-12 (.583) from 3-point range.
 
Gill-Miles (F, 6-0, Fr., Lexington, Ky.) averaged a double-double this past week, going for 15.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in two games. In a win over North Carolina Central, Gill-Miles had 20 points, on 8-for-18 shooting (.444), and 10 rebounds to go along with four assists. Earlier in the week, against North Carolina A&T State, she scored nine points, grabbing 10 boards and three steals.
 
Myles (C, 6-2, So., Rochester, N.Y.) averaged 12.5 rebounds and 5.0 blocks per game this past week, and of her 25 total rebounds, 22 came on the defensive end. Myles grabbed 14 rebounds – 11 defensive – and blocked three shots against North Carolina Central, before turning in an 11-rebound, seven-block performance against North Carolina A&T State. All 11 of her rebounds in that game were on the defensive end, and Myles also had double-doubles in both contests.
 
Other Top Performers
Brianna Battle (B-CU) had three rebounds and a steal in a win over Delaware State.
 
Chasimmie Brown (B-CU) scored 16 points against Delaware State, while also grabbing five rebounds.
 
Angel Golden (B-CU) scored 24 points against Delaware State, including 15 in the fourth quarter.
 
Chance Graham (CSU) had 16 points and 11 rebounds in a win over rival Morgan State.
 
Genesis Lucas (CSU) had 11 points, six steals and five assists against Morgan State.
 
Maraiyah Smith (CSU) dropped 12 points and had three steals against Morgan State.
 
Ryan Jones (DSU) had 14 points and six rebounds against Morgan State, going 4-for-8 from the floor.
 
Monnazjea Finney-Smith (HAM) had 19 points and a school-record 13 steals against Savannah State, before pouring in 24 points at South Carolina State.
 
Mahaley Holit (HAM) scored nine points on 4-for-5 shooting against Savannah State.
 
Ayonna Williams (HOW) scored 16 points in a win over North Carolina Central, before adding 18 points and eight rebounds against North Carolina A&T State.
 
Rodneysha Martin (NCCU) scored 20 points against Howard, before chipping in 19 points and three boards against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Alexys Long (NSU) dropped 29 points in her team’s 78-58 win over Savannah State.
 
Raven Russell (NSU) had a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds, to go along with five steals, against Savannah State.
 
Kaylee Allen (SSU) had 24 points, seven rebounds, six steals and four assists against Norfolk State.
 
Alexxus Sowell (SSU) had nine points, six rebounds and five blocks against Norfolk State.
