NORFOLK, Va., Sept. 17, 2018—Morgan State senior Cristen Coryatt and
Bethune-Cookman junior Miranda White were named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Morgan State’s Zoe McBride was named Rookie of the Week, while
Bethune-Cookman sophomore Jordan Jefferson earned Defensive Specialist of the Week honors and
Morgan State junior Roi Wallace was named Setter of the Week.
Coryatt (5-9, Sr., OH, Sugar Land, Texas) hit .299 this past weekend, averaging 4.3 kills and 2.5 digs per set in helping the Lady Bears to a 1-2 mark in the Dig the District Tournament. Her best match of the weekend came against George Washington, in which she racked up 21 kills and 18 digs to go along with three blocks, and she followed that up with a 19-kill, 10-dig effort in a four-set win over Alabama A&M. Coryatt opened the weekend with 12 kills and two blocks against Georgetown, giving her double-digit kills in all three matches.
White (5-8, Jr., OH, Downey, Calif.) racked up double-digit kills in all three matches this past weekend and recorded a pair of double-doubles in helping the Lady Wildcats to a 2-1 mark at the Stetson Invitational. She opened the weekend with a 16-kill, 13-dig performance in a four-set win over Chicago State – a match in which she also had three blocks – and she followed that up with 17 kills against Stetson. White hit .321 in the Brown match, recording a career-high 25 kills, 11 digs, two blocks and a service ace.
McBride (6-0, Fr., OH, Ridgefield, Wash.) had double-digit kills in all three matches this past weekend, and she recorded a double-double (15 kills, 17 digs) against George Washington. She followed that up on Saturday with 18 kills, six digs and four service aces against Alabama A&M. She hit a weekend-best .290 against Georgetown in the Dig the District opener, recording 11 kills and committing just two errors.
Jefferson (5-8, So., OH, San Antonio, Texas) averaged 4.6 digs per set this past weekend, giving the Lady Wildcats a strong defensive presence in addition to her typical offensive production. Jefferson racked up a career-high 25 digs against tournament host Stetson and added another 24 in a four-set win over Brown. Against Chicago State, Jefferson had 11 digs and two blocks – and she recorded double-doubles in all three matches.
Wallace (5-9, Jr., S, San Dimas, Calif.) averaged 10.7 assists per set this past weekend and had a pair of double-doubles in three matches. She had 52 assists and 15 digs in a five-set loss to George Washington, before turning in a 47-assist, 13-dig effort in a four-set win over Alabama A&M on Saturday. She also had two blocks and three service aces in that match. Wallace opened the weekend with 29 assists and eight digs against Georgetown.
Other Top Performers
J’Nai Higgins (B-CU) had 27 assists and 14 digs against Chicago State, before turning in a 28-assist performance against Brown.
Ryleigh Taylor (B-CU) recorded 31 assists against Stetson.
Miajavon Coleman (CSU) had 13 kills and eight digs against Alabama A&M.
Brianna Lang (CSU) had 32 assists against Alabama A&M, and also recorded a double-double (27 assists, 12 digs) against George Washington.
Asia Stennis (CSU) was named Dig the District All-Tournament.
Milexa Cordona (DSU) averaged 7.2 assists per set and had two double-doubles (36 assists and 13 digs against Lafayette; 36 assists and 11 digs against Fairleigh Dickinson).
Valentina Carrasco (FAMU) had 16 digs each against Jacksonville State and Troy.
Maria Yvette Garcia (FAMU) recorded 17 kills each against Jacksonville State and Troy.
Ilayda Nurkan (FAMU) racked up 36 assists against Troy after turning in a 31-assist effort against Jacksonville State.
Tamia Dockery (HOW) had 42 assists against Buffalo and averaged 9.0 assists per set over the weekend.
Antonia Kearney (HOW) had 12 digs against Buffalo.
Jurnee Tipton (HOW) started the weekend with a 16-kill effort against No. 5 Penn State, before recording a double-double (12 kills, 14 digs) against Buffalo.
Fola Wilson (HOW) racked up 30 digs against Buffalo.
Lucia Babic (MDES) had 14 kills each against Lehigh and Navy.
Alexis Lee (MDES) had 10 kills against Lehigh, hitting a program-record .909 in that match.
Koya Sowells (MDES) had 18 digs against Navy after turning in a 17-dig effort against Lehigh.
Jasmin Hubbard (MSU) racked up 20 digs against Alabama A&M.
